Three loops one hike
by TommyV  5 Jul 2019
Inishbofin has three marked looped trails on the island taking in the Western Quarter (Purple) loop the Middle Quarter (Blue) loop and the East side of the island Cloonmore (Red) loop. If making the journey all the way to this island it's possible to hike the entire island in a day. We followed the Cloonmore loop first which starts and finishes back at the quay which is ideal to have a bit of lunch at the Beach Bar before continuing to explore the rest of the island. Head North following the blue loop to the 89 metre mark just above the air field. I believe this to be the highest point on the island but there is debate as to the highest point on the Western Quarter being equal to this. In any case it's it's very easy to take in the Western Quarter loop from here by heading to a little beach at the North side of Lough Bofin where you will join the purple loop. It's possible to pop up to the top of the prominent hill on this side of the island if you are not sure about the Middle Quarter high point being the highest on the island. All in all a lovely island to hike and very different walks from the baron Western Quarter to the more sheltered inhabited Eastern side of the island.
