It's a wonderful island to explore on a fine summer's day. Take the ferry from Doran's Point and spend a few hours trekking around this off-the-beaten-track gem.

Picture: View from near the high point towards Achill Island
Dont mess with the Bullsmouth
by Fergalh 12 Jun 2023
Parked at Doran's point A (F775 078) and got a small boat across to the pier at the eastern end of the island. Walked a 9 km circuit of the island taking in the sights of the school, the old post office, the recently re-consecreated church and the high point. Great panoramic views from the high point of Achill Island, Mulraney and the Ballycroy National park and too numerous mountains to list ! The is also a regular boat from Achill Island. It should be noted that the tide and current at the western tip of the island (The Bullsmouth) can reach up to 14 Knots. This is measured as the third fastest current in the whole of Europe. So even though the distance from Achill Island from Inisbiggle is less than 200 metres don't try to swim it ! Linkback: mountainviews.ie/island/2166/comment/23986/
