Picture: Ruins of Nendrum Ecclesiastical site
Historical site of Nendrum worth visiting on the island
by Fergalh 23 Aug 2023
From Lisbane head east over country roads and over the causeway to Reagh island and than Mahee Island. At the start of the island there is a small fort and shortly afterwards at A (J524 637) there is a car park. From here head up the hill through a gate to the ancient ecclesiastical ruins of Nendrum church and round tower built by saint Moi Choi from the 6th century. Great views from the ruins. This incidentally was also the site of a Tidal Mill where the monks harnessed the power of the sea. The first 'green' monks you could say.....The rest of the island is taken up with a closed golf course and large private houses Linkback: mountainviews.ie/island/2092/comment/24011/
