Carrickarede island is connected to the mainland by the world famous Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. One of Northern Ireland's top tourist attractions it is operated by the National Trust but unfortunately on Tuesday evening 23/5/2017 vandals made an attempt to cut the rope which has resulted in its closure for some days. According to its web site fisherman some 350 years ago connected to the island in the same manner. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/2055/comment/19528/

Pick your time to cross carefully !

Park at visitor centre at 052 447 starA west of Carrick a Rede. This has to be booked in advance at busy times and is between 10 and 15 sterling depending on what time you go. There is a 3 km round trip so longer than most people expect. Easy enough ascent to high point after the rope bridge. Impressive views along coastline. According to the National Trust people there there are very, very long and slow queues for the rope bridge at peak times. This bridge can only take 8 people at a time for safety reasons so patience is required. I was advised by the National Trust people 9 am is the best time for Mountain views people to attend !
