Prominent Headland with alpine style ridge
Short Summary created by simon3, Sweeney  9 Feb 2023
The Sturral is a little known, but striking headland on the west coast of Donegal. To gain the summit requires walking on exposed steep terrain, with a scrambling route then back towards either Port or Glencolumbcille. The scramble has serious exposure well beyond what most hillwalkers are familiar with. The rock is loose though the route overall is short. There is also a long rock climb, from the sea, starting to the west, which requires kayak/dingy access. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/5140/comment/20735/

Little coastal gem
by srr45  26 Jun 2022
This is a true little gem of our fabulous coast. I summited it from the scrambling the ridge itself. No ropes needed but great care is needed and some hand hold rocks are loose. This climb is not for your average hiker and definitely to be avoided in high winds. The views from the summit are amazing. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/5140/comment/23525/

Look out tower. In surprisingly good condition given it’s exposed location. It is located about 500m directly south of Sturrall summit. Don’t miss this as it is worth a visit if doing Sturrall Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/5140/comment/23570/

Great ridge scramble
by Sweeney  31 Jan 2023
Headed out to climb the Sturral from Port to the west. Scrambled directly along the ridge, and then turned around at the last steep few metres to the top, as it involved 1 committing climbing move.
Since then, I've read that it's better to walk around to the back, and climbing the Sturral from the west. This allows you to abseil off the top, and then complete the scramble along the ridge back to the east.
The scramble along the ridge is lovely, exposed with nice moves, but its just quite short. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/5140/comment/23824/
