The Maamturks Challenge 2009

BACK TO CHALLENGE WALK CALENDAR

Whilst an unfortunate incident was to befall a woman at pretty much the start of preceedings.....for the most part all were to truely enjoy the Maumturks Challenge 2009.

The day didn't begin in anyway inviting though and early morning showers were both cold and biting.....later on in the day I would be most envious of that breed of walker who can start their pains two hours later, overtake me in another few hours and be both dry and jovial having missed the worst of the weather for the given day.....thoughts of them dying deaths of a thousand paper-cuts crossed my mind but I reluctantly excepted that that was just not being very sporting of me.

The weather however took a fantastic turn for the best with sound visibility and pleasant walking temperatures being dominant for the rest of the walk.

As always cut-off times are of paramount importance (especially on the Mauturks), yet this year (even more so than usual) the challenge would show it's true colours yet again and catch out many a seasoned walker...... at both cut-offs not just our old favourite "Col of we all know what....."  Indeed we all have different strengths, different days, but I'm convinced as early a "kick-off" as possible can help both take off any pressure that may follow if any time is lost and to help keep as safe as is required.

.........remember troops "it just takes a bit of bad luck...."

Bizzare to think of how important ten minutes can be over the course of a twelve hour (or even more) day..... but this is the nature of the beast.

It's said every year but it should never ever be left out and that is the thanks that is so very much deserved off all who every year endeavor to ensure a great day is to had by one and all.

A quick word of thanks to whoever it was who found my GPS on the side of the road.... Put it on the roof of the car which I then moved further up the road....but alas didn't think to remove same from roof of car.......and off it flew..............muppet!!
