Flowerdew, Michael, P.J. McKeever & J.D. Smyth Explore Series
Publisher: GSI/GSNI Published: Unkn Last revision: Added by pdtempan
The Explore Series of leaflets is a cross-border initiative by the Geological Survey of Ireland and the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland. Each leaflet describes a tour which can be made by car or bicycle and gives suggestions for walks that can be combined with the tour. Whilst there is some emphasis on geological information, the language is non-technical, and the leaflets highlight many places that will be of interest to all walkers. They are particularly useful for lesser-known areas. For example, the Explore Cuilcagh leaflet highlights many scenic spots in the limestone region of lower hills between the Cuilcagh plateau and Lough Macnean, such as Hanging Rock, Burren, and the various caves and swallow holes in the Marble Arch system. Other leaflets in the series that cover areas of interest to hillwalkers include West Breifne (including North Leitrim Glens) and West Sligo (Ox Mountains).
