Andrews, J. H. Paper Landscape, A

Publisher: Four Courts Press Published: 1975 Last revision: 2002 Added by simon3
Picture from simon3 Contract picsThis 300 page book is a description of the work of the Ordnance Survey in the 1800s in Ireland, a period that saw the ambitious mapping of Ireland to 6 inches to the mile. Not only was much of the mapping technology and the definition of requirement new, so also were the organisational methods. The book is thoroughly academic, including historical minutiae and several appendices. It is of background interest to recreational users of mountains. For example it describes the placement of trig pillars in the two principal triangulations.
