Overview Walk length: 12.4km Ascent: 1100m Duration (without stops): 6:00 h:mm I found this walk in Dillons "The Mournes walks" and liked the look of it.I headed off last saturday, 28/7/12. and parked in the Carrick little carpark. The weather was fine and the walk to the head of the valley was fairly straight forward. The track disappears when you reach the head of the valley but by this stage you have a fairly obvious target of the brandy pad above you to aim for . The track also stops short on the OS sheet 29 map. There is a nice view of the devils coach road from below before the scramble up to the brandy pad. The track is then easy to follow from the brandy pad , first up Beg (610m) then across to Cove (655m) and then Lamagan (704m). The views from Lamagan are excellent in all directions taking in everything from Donard to Bearnagh to the Silent valley. I considered taking in Slieve Binnian as well but the legs were a bit tired at this stage so I decided to save it for another day and when I dropped down to the saddle between Binnian and Lamagan I headed left towards the Blue lough and back to the car from there. It was great to have such a clear day in the Mournes and to be able to enjoy the spectacular views even if I did suffer from some heavy showers in the afternoon.
