simon3: Track 1488 in area near Ballycumber Hill, Dublin/Wicklow (Ireland)
Ballycumber SE Traverse
Length: 12.2km, Creator time taken: 3h38m, Ascent: 420m,
Descent: 430m

Places: Start at T02110 74425, Ballycumber Hill, end at Start
Logged as completed by 1
Starting from near a bridge on the R747 NW of Tinahely this route uses the Wicklow Way to start up Ballycumber from the East, via Garyhoe Hill, 397m.
The attractions include a great walk through the Mangans area which has something unusual in Ireland, a beech plantation as well as miscellaneous Sitka spruce and larch.
While skirting Garyhoe the view east changes, eventually showing the whole length of the ridge of Moneyteige, Croghan Kinsella and Annagh Hill. This ridge is roughly parallel to that of Muskeagh - Ballycumber.
There is a choice of where exactly you start up the hill to Garyhoe. It might be prudent to start a little earlier than the track shown.
From Garyhoe continue to Ballycumber Hill and then take a fairly direct SSE route back to the Wicklow Way. Unusually there can be high level cattle grazing on the way down from Ballycumber. Veering further south may help keep away from animals.

Note: ALL information such as Ascent, Length and Creator time taken etc should be regarded as approximate. The creator's comments are opinions and may not be accurate or still correct.
Your time to complete will depend on your speed plus break time and your mode of transport. For walkers: Naismith's rule, a rough and often inaccurate estimate, suggests a time of 3h 9m + time stopped for breaks
Note: It is up to you to ensure that your route is appropriate for you and your party to follow bearing in mind all factors such as safety, weather conditions, experience and access permission.
