This name is pronounced 'yokawn'. It is of obscure origin, but may refer to a pole or mast on the summit. It may have a parallel in Gokane Point, a headland south of Skibbereen. Feaghmaan East and West are townlands on the slopes of Geokaun.   Geokaun is the 1241th highest place in Ireland.

Surely the best view in Ireland

From the top of this one hill you can see the Skelligs to the south-west, the Blasket Islands, Slea Head and Mt Eagle to the north-west, Mount Brandon to the north, Knocknadobar to the north-east, and (if you're lucky) Carrauntoohil and its two companions to the east.

Yes you can drive to the summit and see it all without effort for €4, or you can climb it from sea-level. Park at the Tetrapod car park at Dohilla (V3871 7782 A) and climb from the gate of the radio station. Up and down in about an hour, it's similar in height and difficulty to climbing Bray Head (in Wicklow) from the Esplanade. Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/988/comment/6509/
