Djouce dominates the views of the Wicklow Mountains from Roundwood and Newtown Mountkennedy. The Old Irish word dígas is defined by the Dictionary of the Irish Language as 'high, lofty; a height'. There is a Sliab Digsa mentioned in the Metrical Dindshenchas, where the second element is interpreted as a woman's name. This shows that the meaning of dígas was already obscure by the time of the Metrical Dindshenchas (12th century) and a story was probably invented to account for the name.   Djouce is the 93rd highest summit in Ireland.

Tired of the usual ways up Djouce? Hordes of people on boardwalks? Well try this for something new. (Yes something new in Wicklow!)

At O18533 09731 A there is the start of a gully that leads up to White Hill, the southern spur of Djouce. (On the OS sheet 56 it's marked as a stream.). This unexpected feature is nearly 500m long and twists and turns very impressively. After you have ascended it you find yourself almost on White Hill at O18097 09564 B.
