The second element in this name appears to be derived from the verb iompaím. It may be iompú, gen. iompaithe, giving the meaning 'hill of the turning or retreat'. Alternatively, it may be iompaithe, 'turned, converted', in which case the sense   Knockanimpaha is the 914th highest summit in Ireland. Knockanimpaha is the second most northerly summit in the W Limerick / N Kerry area.
