The neolithic farming complex of the Céide Fields lies on the northern slopes. Mám an Cheo is the title of a poem which talks of agricultural life and coring (Ir. comhar, co-operation between neighbours in the tasks of farming). It is available in Maumakeogh is the 874th highest summit in Ireland.

When in North Mayo

by sandman 19 Jul 2012 I would not make a trip especially to visit this hill and would only do it as a summit bagging excerise. Park at G06922 37808 (Point A) and head towards summit at G03703 36823 (Point B) app 3.5km away keeping right at end of bog pass to Famine cottage at G05762 37618 (Point C) which will allow you to ford the stream even on a wet day, From the cottage its a slog over heather and boggy high grass to the summit - do not hand rail the forest as the under foot conditions are better to the right. You need height before views appear across to Downpatrick Head, Belderg Harbour Glinsk - Nephin and its neighbours.
