There is a hillfort on summit named Rathcoran and a second one to NW. The entry in PNCW for Rathcoran refers to an article on The Excavation of a Burial Cairn on Baltinglass Hill in PRIA xlvi (1941), p. 221. This makes it clear that Baltinglass Hill   Baltinglass Hill is the 869th highest summit in Ireland. Baltinglass Hill is the second most westerly summit in the Dublin/Wicklow area.

Not one for the dog!
by csd  16 May 2010 Even with the others' detailed comments, I still found myself scratching my head as to where to go once I reached the end of the laneway that runs by the graveyard. The answer is to head straight across up the field and go through the gateway at the top into the next field. Once in this upper field, take an immediate left and walk to the end of the field, taking a right up into rougher ground there. Follow the sheep tracks uphill to the left of the cross, and climb over the fence at S87591 89250 (Point A) (note there's a rotting sheep carcass just here, so mightn't be a good idea to bring the squeamish or young this way). You'll soon be out onto more open ground and more fields full of livestock, but it makes for an easy ascent to the summit.

Because of all the fences, locked gates, and fields full of livestock, it's hard to recommend this route if you have a dog. Even with a relatively light dog, it soon gets old picking her up to carry her over the obstacles, and if you have a fat labrador you can kiss your back goodbye!! Once lifted over the gate, wee skip will spend the rest of the time trying to chase the sheep, which is tiring for all concerned.

The views from the summit are excellent, though, and in clear weather like today it was possible to see as far as the Knockmealdowns in the southwest. The ring forts on Spinnan's were also clear, with Keaden and Lug brooding in the background.
Point A: S87591 89250

Bull-tinglass Hill!
by Dessie1  9 Jul 2012 Park at graveyard and follow track with graveyard wall on your left all the way to a gate. Then follow grazing fields (2/3 fields)which contain a very large bull(Beware!!) all the way to the summit.I kept beside the wall which leads up through the grazing fields as I was wearing a red t-shirt and would prefer to have a large amount of concrete between me and the bull if he took offence to my intrusion! Keep on the tractor tracks to avoid the gorse field.Summit has a large trig pillar and a very large stone ringfort and excellent views of Wicklows highest!
