Tim Robinson suggests roighne is righin, 'tough or stubborn', (TR, 103) but it seems more likely that it is simply roighne, 'the best part', perhaps a praise-name for an old land division rather than the hill itself.   Roighne Mh贸r is the 711th highest summit in Ireland. Roighne Mh贸r is the second most westerly summit in the Partry/Joyce Country area.
