Short Summary created by Peter Walker 20 Jun 2012
Crockballaghgeeha is one of numerous tops acting as potential footnotes/aperatifs to walks around the Poisoned Glen in the Derryveagh mountains. Being both rugged and quite convenient, it's well worth including in such trips.
Start from the minor road just past the ruined Dunlewy Church 930189(Point A), following the path leading up the true right bank of the Croananiv Burn. Maintain this course once the path peters out, turning left at the obvious bend in the glen at 942170(Point B), keeping alongside the stream on vague hints of trod. Leave the stream at 948172(Point C), making your own way through the outcrops studding the spur of Crockballaghgeeha to the east. The summit is pleasantly stubbled with rocks and has fine views of Errigal, Dunlewy Lough and the northern ramparts of Slieve Snaght: the walk from here to the latter is an excellent traverse of complex mountain terrain.

Up the Poisoned Glen...
by Peter Walker 20 Jun 2011
Crockballaghgeeha represents a sensible opening gambit for an 'extended' Slieve Snaght circuit from the north. Unsurprisingly it's best to start with the classic womble up the impressively primeval Poisoned Glen (a walk that this MViewer found to be less annoyingly tough and boggy the closer he kept to the stream), following its left hand turn at its head. Keep climbing alongside the stream (vague, indeed possibly imagined hints of path) and the spur of Crockballaghgeeha comes increasingly into view. I left the stream at around (948 172(Point C)) and headed basically due E; it's very straightforward to pick out a route up the steep hillside if visibility is clear, the summit following soon after reaching the crest of the ridge. From hereon in the route to and over Slieve Snaght is enormous fun (lots of ins and outs and Celtic badlands) but I'd imagine it to be a right barrel of laughs if the cloud is down. 'You see that heading you've just set? I'm very much looking forward to watching you try to walk along it...'
The photo is a view from the summit, looking over Dunlewy Lough to Lough Nacung and with Errigal being as promiscuous as it usually is.
