This, I think, is the first photo of Carriglineen on MountainViews. It was taken from the top of Fananierin, looking northwards across the Avonbeg River valley. It shows this small mountain from its most attractive side (Drumgoff nestling at its foot to the left), with its southern flank clearly bearing the marks of its glaciated past, when the ice issuing from Glenmalure ground its way eastwards. From a walker's perspective, it's a rather disappointing mountain, however. Surrounded on three sides by a combination of roads, forest, farmland and human habitation, it cannot easily be included in any meaningful circuit, although David Herman, in his walk guide 'East and South', does manage to link it up with Mullacor. The simplest and least adventurous approach is from the north side, starting close to the Shay Elliot Monument (T 130 921 C). Heading south on a track between Carriglineen and Kirikee Mountain, after about 500 metres a trodden path appears to the right and takes one over gently rising ground to the top of Carriglineen.
