Slievetooey? There's three of them!
by millsd1  18 Jun 2012 Climbed Slievetooey W Top on Sunday 17/6/2012 as part of a loop walk incorporating all three of Slievetooey's tops, part of the Colmcille Way and Crockuna. Car parked at lay-by at approx G642890 (Point A).
Great views all-round including Errigal, Benbulbin and Croaghpatrick.

From Slievetooey Main Top, 511m, G628899 (Point B), access to W Top, 472m, G617906 (Point C), involves a 160m descent following a very faint grass track down the ridge in a westerly direction to a wet boggy col sprinkled with a few peat hags.
From there a 120m ascent in a northerly direction over rock and very short heather will take you to the summit.
In conditions of poor visibility, bear in mind there is a fairly steep drop to your right at all times on this approach.

Slievetooey Far W Top, 450m, lies about 2.5km further west at G593904 (Point D). Initially follow a magnetic bearing of 269 degrees aiming for the southern edge of Lough Awoty (skirting the northern edge of the un-named lough to the east), and this will keep you largely clear of peat hags on easy ground, largely rock and low heather.
Point A: G642 890 Point B: G628 899 Point C: G617 906
Point D: G593 904
