by jackill  11 Mar 2009 What a view from this easily accessible ridge, just drive to the carpark at R84440 69415 (388 mtrs.) and off you go. The bulk of Keeper hill towering on one side and the Arra mountains with the Shannon and Lough Derg on the other. The Silvermines area has mined for Lead, Zinc,Copper, Sulphides and Barites for well over 1500 years with official records dating back to the 1600s. Mining finally ceased here in 1993.
This area now is designated a forest recreation area by Coillte under the name Knockanroe.
