There is a nearby townland in the civil parish of Kilcar named Crowanrudda , which looks like a variant form of the name of this hill. However, the townland name is interpreted at logainm.ie as Ir. Cró na Roda, 'round valley of the red iron scum'.
Cró na Roda is the 482nd highest summit in Ireland. Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/479/
