Stillbrook Hill is properly the name of the ridge extending NW between Glendossaun and Glenregan, whereas this peak is on the main watershed of the Slieve Bloom and is slightly higher.   Stillbrook Hill is the second highest mountain in the Slieve Bloom area and the 430th highest in Ireland. Stillbrook Hill is the second highest point in county Offaly.

Short Summary created by jackill  7 Nov 2010 Park on the roadside at N 266 040 (Point A), room for 5 cars. Then trudge boggily uphill to the summit , marked by a stick in 2009, next to the hard to find trig point.

by eamonoc  2 May 2013 3/5/2013 Left road at point B, I followed an obvious boggy path with curious little plastic dams in a boggy drain alongside it, I went to the highest point on this path at 513mts. There is a very obvious large boggy mound on the left here. I went sharply to the right and after about 5min walking over rough boggy heathery ground, I found the summit trig point.

by simon3  16 Nov 2002 Starting from the road at N268037 (Point B) you can easily reach this top with 60m of climbing (gosh). In continous rain I couldn't actually find anything that unmistakeably indicated the summit. See if you can pick out where it is in the picture. Yes, in the flat mountain stakes Wicklow meets its match in the Slieve Blooms.

by csd  11 Aug 2004 Here is my companion, facing into the setting sun at the actual summit of Stillbrook Hill. The rather forlorn looking tree wrapped in plastic is the main point of reference, as the Survey marker is hidden in the heather beside it. The views on 10.08.04 were fabulous, with Lough Derg and Galway Bay visible.

by Jaak  30 Apr 2006 The dizzy heights of Stillbrook Hill as seen from the car parking area at N 268 037. A very disappointing sight (and climb) - could more accurately be described as a slightly inverted hole than a mountain. I tramped the plateau for almost two hours trying to find the top, visiting every little mound and tussock in sight, even walking to a number of other hills in the vicinity in case I was misreading my (.5 inch) map. Eventually I decided to call it a day when my foot hit off the recessed Trig point - Hurrah !!

Finished off on Baunreaghcong, Slieve Blooms done, no plans to rush back in the near future.

by peterturner  24 Mar 2008 One way to look at Stillbrook is part of an overall traverse from the R440 along the county border spine of the Slieve Blooms to the Glendine Gap and back to the R440 using the SBW. This round trip takes around 6 hours. See walk guide 62 Slieve Bloom - 4 Tops
