See Máire MacNeill, 'The Festival of Lughnasa' (pp. 221-25) for details of the festive assembly on 'Height Sunday' on Arderin.   Arderin is the highest mountain in the Slieve Bloom area and the 479th highest in Ireland. Arderin is the highest point in county Laois and also the highest in Offaly.

Climbed Arderin with 2 small kids in Aug 2012. Followed Jakill's directions, thank you! Note: Car park has large stone plaque outside it which shows the Laois / Offaly border. Steep slope down from car-park onto the mountain track. Pretty boggy in parts on the way up (needed the wellies!) but rewarding climb all the same.
