Enjoyable walk on good track.
by Harry Goodman  18 Sep 2013
From the outset might I express my sincere thanks to padodes for identifying an excellent start point for this walk which I did on 13 Sept 2013 in pusuit of my last 500m top on the MV list for Dublin/Wicklow. This had been long delayed with the thought that it would be an uninteresting climb enclosed in forestry for most of the time. Not so. I parked off road, with ample space for several cars and took the broad track up into the forest.. At T073820 C, where the main track turned abruptly right I veered left onto another good but narrower track which immediately led out onto open hillside. It then swung up right between the forest edge on it's right and a wire fence on the left. From here, with a couple of bends to the right it was plain sailing all the way to the top some 1.5 km along. The slope was in the main fairly gentle with a few short, sharp, rises en route and led up to T0571682359 D where it turned abruptly left. The MV accepted high point lay a further 100 metres along the fence line and was marked by a cairn. Due to the weather conditions I had limited visability but had sight of my next and final hill of the afternoon Ballycumber Hill on a day out which had also included Slieve Maan. Distance up and back was 5km and could be walked comfortably in about one and a half hours. Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/381/comment/15187/
