Also known as The Playground [OS ½] or Slievenakilla. The name The Playbank relates to the festive assembly held on the mountain on the last Sunday of July, at which sports and dancing took place (Máire MacNeill, 'The Festival of Lughnasa' (pp. 181-82). Also called Carrignahasta.   The Playbank is the 438th highest summit in Ireland.

Similarly to gerrym, I approached from the rough track to the south of Slievenakilla, but I headed directly north across the fields towards the summit. There are quite a few fences to cross (last one at H02906 24550 K) so this was a bit tedious at times. Arrived to the west of the low cliffs, where there is easy access up to the summit/ridge area at H02990 24957 L). There are two "summits" marked: an OS trig pillar and a cairn of small rocks. MV has the latter co-ordinates as the summit, but by my GPS the OS trig pillar is a metre or two higher (GR H03260 25677 M at 543m), so perhaps this should be recorded as the true summit? No pics: very poor light lower down and mist at the summit. Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/370/comment/2575/
