A rewarding way to access the Reek

Short Summary created by jackill 30 Jul 2012 Park at L87542 80732 (Point A) where there is room on the roadside for 3 cars, or further up opposite some farmhouses, we sought and recieved parking permission at the fifth house just before the road becomes a farm track. Cross a sheepwire fence heading roughly north east across an open field by a fence. The ground becomes steep and rough with rocks as you slowly gain height to the summit cairn. You can also reach the summit via a car split and a long , rewarding traverse of the range starting at L94951 90955 (Point B).

by david bourke 23 Nov 2006 In January 2006 I climbed Croagh Patrick, with some fellow travellers from Sligo, via Ben Goram. The initial ascent is quite a stiff pull up and on the day in question it was not helped by the strong icy winds. However the surrounding views more than compensated. The route is less frequented that the pilgrim way and you are more likely to find yourself alone as you climb. The terrain is mainly peat and is thankfully not eroded. Let us hope it stays that way in the future. The picture was taken looking back towards Ben Goram on the final ascent of Croagh Patrick.
