great mountain
by scannerman  16 Mar 2012 Climbed up Mweelrea yesterday, a great hill with serious amounts of really steep ground. Very dramatic scenery indeed.
The long walk in from delphi took a couple of hours over rough and often boggy territory but the view of mweelrea's crags smouldering in the mist and cloud certainly kept up the moral.
After a short sojourn to lough lugaloughan we proceeded straight up the south east shoulder and on to the summit. Had some fine views into Killary harbour and down Mweelrea's airy east face but mist and cloud obsured any wider sights of connemara.
Had planned to go down via Lugmore mtn but with heavy cloud decending and lateness of day, we returned the same route.
Super hill.
