Pronunciation...
by Conor74  22 Jun 2010
So is it Ka-hir or Care?

Have heard it pronounced as both. Know Caher or Cahir appears elsewhere in South Kerry, a townland near Kenmare, Cahersiveen, Caherdaniel etc. and they are pronounced Ka-hir, which I guess is in keeping with the Irish word from which it is derived. And I always assumed it was like this. But recently have heard a few pronounce it as one would the town in South Tipperary and just one syllable, as in Care. So now wondering was I getting it wrong all this time?

So any pointers or definitive answer? Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/3/comment/5898/
