Commaun Beg is never going to feature in anyone's Top Ten Irish Mountains. Probably not even in their top five hundred. Partly this is because it doesn't present much of a profile as you approach it, but also because it's tree-shrouded and lacking in obvious features.
Our approach was via a waterlogged lane to the NW (we got permission to park at a house at R921664(Point A)), and possibly not the best way up. The lane deteriorated into a track as it entered the trees, but on arrival at a crossroads, the edge of forestry ascending uphill clearly marked the way.
The summit area is an acre-sized clearing amidst the forestry, the top marked by a rotting stick.
It is a hill with an aura of obscurity and neglect. No surprise that only one Mountainviewer had logged it before us.
