Common Beggar
by madfrankie  3 Mar 2011 Commaun Beg is never going to feature in anyone's Top Ten Irish Mountains. Probably not even in their top five hundred. Partly this is because it doesn't present much of a profile as you approach it, but also because it's tree-shrouded and lacking in obvious features.
Our approach was via a waterlogged lane to the NW (we got permission to park at a house at R921664 (Point A)), and possibly not the best way up. The lane deteriorated into a track as it entered the trees, but on arrival at a crossroads, the edge of forestry ascending uphill clearly marked the way.
The summit area is an acre-sized clearing amidst the forestry, the top marked by a rotting stick.
It is a hill with an aura of obscurity and neglect. No surprise that only one Mountainviewer had logged it before us.
Point A: R921 664 (turn area map On)
