Bascadh Mountain (Ir. Bascadh [TH], 'mutilation' or 'severe wounding') Kerry County In Arderin List

I have climbed this summit: NO (You need to be a logged-in member to change this.)

Longitude: -9.710502, Latitude: 51.929445 Prominence: 110m,   Isolation: 1km
ITM: 482366 576641,   GPS IDs, 6 char: Bscdh, 10 char: Bascadh

As it is odd for the usual sense of Ir. bascadh, 'mutilation', to be applied to a hill, it is possible that the name has some other meaning in this case. Also known as Boughil West Top.   Bascadh is the 284th highest summit in Ireland.

Access track gives an ok ascent to start over rough ground
Short Summary created by jackill  30 Jul 2012 Park at a little layby at V 80532 77882 (Point A), room for 3 or 4 cars . Walked up the road
a short distance to V 80608 78026 (Point B) cross the sheep wire and head up the mountain on a rough track to another fence.
Cross this fence and head towards Lough Fadda and Lough Beg. After crossing the boulder field at Graignagower, head up a track that has been carved out on the mountainside, it seems to originate in Scarteen to the south. This track varies in quality but leads to about 410 meters.
From here the summit is reached by following a fence that tracks the edge of some rough rocky cliffs. At a fence junction cross the fence infrony of you and turn east for a short walk to the small summit cairn
