As it is odd for the usual sense of Ir. bascadh, 'mutilation', to be applied to a hill, it is possible that the name has some other meaning in this case. Also known as Boughil West Top. Bascadh is the 284th highest summit in Ireland.

Access track gives an ok ascent to start over rough ground

Short Summary created by jackill 30 Jul 2012 Park at a little layby at V 80532 77882 (Point A), room for 3 or 4 cars . Walked up the road
a short distance to V 80608 78026 (Point B) cross the sheep wire and head up the mountain on a rough track to another fence.
Cross this fence and head towards Lough Fadda and Lough Beg. After crossing the boulder field at Graignagower, head up a track that has been carved out on the mountainside, it seems to originate in Scarteen to the south.This track varies in quality but leads to about 410 meters.
From here the summit is reached by following a fence that tracks the edge of some rough rocky cliffs.At a fence junction cross the fence infrony of you and turn east for a short walk to the small summit cairn

I parked at a little layby at V 80532 77882 . I pulled on my winter woolies and walked up the road
a short distance to V 80608 78026 where I hopped the sheep wire and struck up the mountain on a rough track to another fence I crossed tnis fence and then followed it all the way to Knocklomenas summit. To the west over Lough Brin ,Mullaghanattin ,dark and brooding , to the east Bascadh beckoned. I descended the steep slope towards Lough Fadda and Lough Beg and all the while wondered at the perfectly rounded sandstone outcrops sculpted by the retreating glacial ice so long ago. After crossing the boulder field at Graignagower , I headed up a track that has been carved out on the mountainside, it seems to originate in Scarteen to the south.This track varies in quality but leads to about 410 meters . From there it was up to ths summit following a fence that tracks the edge of some rough rocky cliffs. I reached a fence junction and from there it was a short but very windy walk to the small summit cairn.
I didn't linger as the wind was now lashing me with horizontal hailstones!
Back down the same way and an exhausting struggle across 1 km of bog to meet the main road.
11 kms and 860 meters climbing.
