An isolated bump with a fine panorama
Short Summary created by Peter Walker  28 Jun 2012 Edenacarnan hides in a tangle of land not far NW of Letterkenny, but stands sufficiently above it (and far enough away from more eminent eminences) to command extensive views over a large swathe of Donegal countryside.

It is easily and quickly (a matter of minutes) ascended from a minor road/track (driveable) across its northern side. Start at 140176 (Point A) and follow the rough access track to the radio kit on the summit, returning the same way.
Point A: C140 176 (turn area map On)

small ridge with big views
by slemish  17 Jul 2011 This curious little ridge in Donegal seems to suffer from an identity crisis. MountainViews calls it Edenacarnan, Google Maps calls it Cloghroe whilst another map site calls it Legnahoory. Whatever the correct name is, this is a great little hill with fine views in all directions. I turned off the N56 between Kilmacrenan and Letterkenny onto a minor road signposted Cashelgay. Follow this road for about a mile until you reach a T-junction. Turn left here and follow the road for a further quarter of a mile until you come to a gate about 100m before a barn. There is room for one vehicle to park here on the left of the road (142171 (Point B)). Cross the road and climb over the gate into the field behind. This is where a short climb starts which is fairly steep through cropped grass and I was certainly feeling the heat on one of the best days I've ever experienced in Donegal. At the top of this field you can see the summit area clearly and there are two barbed wire fences to cross before reaching it. The summit area contains a communications mast and other electrical equipment in a little fenced-off area. This doesn't detract from the views however which are excellent considering the hill is only 192m high. A wonderful panorama from the Sperrins round to the Bluestacks, the Derryveaghs and out over the Fanad and Inishowen peninsulas - the Urris Hills were particularly prominent (see photo). I returned by the same route to the car. An easy and worthwhile climb - this one can be done in 20 minutes so check it out if in the area.
Point B: C142 171 (turn area map On)

A panoramic viewpoint.
by Harry Goodman  18 Jul 2011 Climbed!! Edenacarnan on Tues 7 April 2010. Looking at the map and unaware that there was an access road up to a new communications mast I parked at a minor road junction at C1450517445 (Point C) opposite a steel gate with a rough track which I followed W up to the open hillside. The top is only some 500m along and at an appropriate point , where my way was blocked by dense patches of gorse, I crossed a fence, which I had been following on my right. This led me on to much clearer ground which I followed it along to the top. To my great surprise, a car that had roared past me just as I was starting out on my walk, was sitting on top of the hill with five lads taking in the view! They had driven up the short, winding, rough access road to the mast (not to be recommended!!) Fortunately the high point of the hill C1401917335 (Point D) which lies along the fence line, has escaped being obliterated by the small enclosure surrounding the mast. Having become aware of the access road I followed it down to the minor road at C1408917669 (Point E) where a right turn and then another, a short distance along, brought me back to the car. All done and dusted in approximately 25 minutes at a strollers pace with almost as much time spent at the top taking in the wide panoramic views spread out before me.
Point C: C14505 17445 Point D: C14019 17335 Point E: C14089 17669

A Quick One
by three5four0  18 Apr 2010 On the narrow country lane way, on Edenacarnans northern slopes, we feared there would be nowhere to park, however we actually found several! The first being a new house being built, after passing another house there is a lay-by (coming from the Legnahoory direction), after that there was a place by an old abandoned cottage and finally there was just enough space at the new access road to the coms tower. Even from where we parked the ascent was quick and easy, all of about 11 mins in fact. The views were good and we were treated to a Golden Eagle brushing aside several crows, who went to pick a fight with it.
