I have climbed this summit: NO (You need to be a logged-in member to change this.)

ITM: 576824 849898,   GPS IDs, 6 char: Tvbn, 10 char: Tievebaun

This peak is more notable for the dramatic cliffs and pinnacles on its north and east sides (especially the pinnacle called Eagles Rock) than its actual summit. Landslips have contributed to the formation of this landscape, which is best appreciated fro   Tievebaun is the third highest mountain in the Dartry Mountains area and the 254th highest in Ireland. Tievebaun is the second highest point in county Leitrim.

Crash of 42-31420 in 1943
by dp_burke  9 Aug 2010 Just a quick link to the story of 42-31420's crash on Tievebaun as I found it.
www.skynet.ie/~dan/war/42-31420.pdf

If you do go up top the small bit of wreckage that is left, please don't remove anymore parts so as to leave some memory of the ten young men who flew with her up there.

Cheers, Dennis Burke

Full Moon over the Tieve
by swoop  17 Feb 2011 Myself and Zocolco went for a walk up Benwiskin yesterday for the first time. We accessed hill side from Coillte car park area to north side of ridge , the Gleniff horseshoe. Short walk through foresty , and then vertically up very steep hillside along a fence to the left of sheep farm area. Looking across the horseshoe valley at Truskmore, Tievebaun. It looked expansive and we hope to look for the old bomber wreck next visit.

Picture: Plane wreckage on Tievebaun, Benwhiskin in background
by paddyhillsbagger  17 Mar 2010 Climbed Tievebaun on Paddys Day as part of a sweep of the Dartys and came across the remains of a plane close to the summit. There is grafitti on it from '83 and it's well rusted. Does anyone know the story behind the wreckage?

by culrua  3 Aug 2009 Locally this mountain shown in the photograph is called 'copachnoc' from 'copa' a weir or dam, a word common in Irish placenames.
