Lobawn is also the name of a townland in the parish of Donaghmore. In 1839 John O'Donovan interpreted this name as Leomhach Bán, 'white leo or land abounding in marsh mallows'. Cf. Leoh townland and Leoh Mountain N of Lugnaquilla.   Lobawn is the 222nd highest summit in Ireland.

Access from SW at Youth Hostel
by jimgraham  19 May 2012 Tried walking the route in Paddy Dillon's book but it is now blocked by a very private landowner ! 300 metres towards Donard, however, the forestry track provides parking at S9553 9560 (Point A). Go left at the only fork, through a farmland area with three gates, back into forestry until reaching the head of the road, then keep going along a well used path until moorland is reached. Go easterly uphill for Lobawn or southerly for Sugarloaf up steepish heathery slopes.
