Views the Breadth of Munster
by ciarraioch  9 Jun 2012 Climbed Muisire Mór on 9th June 2012. Started from the entrance to Millstreet Country Park, W 316 848 (Point B) crossing the stile across the road. Head towards the mountain for a 100m and at W 318 848 (Point C) followed the Duhallow way left and parallel with the road, and at W320 854 (Point D) diagonally away from the road along the forest track, taking us higher up the side of the mountain. At W 329 862 (Point E) swung right (south) off the track and charged up the mountain through squelchy ground and high heather. Fairly flat and heathery summit with a large (and presumably ancient, though restored) summit cairn and trig point. Not the most attractive mountain in itself, more rolling boggy upland.

However, views are extremely wideranging and impressive. Nice aspects across Clara and Caherbarnagh to the Paps, with Mangerton and the Reeks ridge beyond. The mountains of the Dingle peninsula were clearly visible as far as An Cnapán Mór above Lispole, as were the Ballyhouras, Galtees and Knockmealdowns. Sliabh na mBan near the Tipperary/Kilkenny border poked its head above the Golden Vale between the two latter ranges. Keeper's Hill in North Tipp was also visible.

Slightly to the south lies a small metal cross. We detoured to take in one of the three St John's wells which surround the mountain (approx W 330 847 (Point F)) and contoured from there back to our starting point.
