Beenkeragh offers challenging scrambling on the Hag's Tooth Ridge. It is connected to Carrauntoohil by a ridge known as the Bones.   Beenkeragh is the second highest mountain in Ireland. Beenkeragh is the second highest point in county Kerry.

Scouting my youth

Yesterday I was fortunate to join the 112th Knocklyon scouts as they attacked the Coumloughra Horseshoe with the fear and elation of youth.
Jabbering and gibbering, tears and laughter, wonder and terror, the joy of experiencing it for the first time all captured on mobile phone camera.

Ashley says its set him up for a life time of hill loving, and how bad can that be?

age and it knows

nothing of age as the flying birds know

nothing of the air they are flying through

or of the day that bears them up

through themselves

and I am a child before there are words

arms are holding me up in a shadow

voices murmur in a shadow

as I watch one patch of sunlight moving

across the green carpet

in a building

gone long ago and all the voices

silent and each word they said in that time

silent now

while I go on seeing that patch of sunlight
