by jackill  5 Oct 2005 I took in Gowlane Beg while walking across the Central Dingle range from Connor pass to Anascaul.
There is a long , broad shoulder leading up to the summit of this mountain after a short decline of 50 mtrs from Slievenea. The walking up this shoulder is fairly easy as its stripped of all bog for most of its length. The summit area rises about 50 mtrs above the rest and is strewn with flat stones. The photo shows the summit trig pillar looking out over Dingle bay and in the distance the majestic MacGillycuddy Reeks.

Justified Hyperbole
by ciarraioch  4 Nov 2012 Only the glorious Corca Dhuibhne could hide an undiscovered gem such as this. Views to die for in all directions. On one side, across the surprisingly green and fertile plain of Lios Póil, and beyond Dingle Bay, the entire tumble of mountains stretching from Mount Hilary near Mallow to the Skelligs at the western end. To the north, the lonely lake speckled mountain plateau (Com an Air - Valley of the Slaughter) that stretches from Anascaul to the Conair Pass, and beyond that to Brandon Bay and the mighty ocean.
A flat and and rocky strewn top, but watch out in mist for the surprisingly steep slope just to the north of the summit cairn. We took in An Cnapán Mór as a circuit from Beenbo Sliabh na nGabhar and Sliabh na Leice. The entire circuit took us seven and a half hours including stops in good conditions.
