Eyeballing the Horses Glen.

Short Summary created by jackill, scapania 9 Jul 2011 From Killarney take the Kenmare road as far as Muckross and then take the first sharp left after Molly Darcy's pub. Drive uphill to a fork in the road with a sign for Mangerton. Take the road to the right and drive along this road until you see a rough track heading off to the left (V984 848 (Point A)) just after a track on the right. There's plenty of parking here along the road or at the start of the track.

This track will take you to the Devil's punchbowl. The start of the walk presents you with a gradual climb as the track meanders either side of a largely dry riverbed. The Lakes of Killarney emerge spectacularly on your right as you gradually gain height. The track winds on upwards until you eventually reach the punchbowl. Walk to the back of the punchbowl and follow the ridge north to the summit of Mangerton north, a grassy area with a small pile of stones.
Drop down east to the col, with a curious fenced off square, before the brief ascent to Glencappul Top.

by simon3 2 Jan 2009 Glencappul Top is the highest point of a spur leading east from Mangerton North Top (MNT). According to my measurements with a GPS it is only 13.7m above the col to MNT so may not be included in future lists. However, that said, it is a great vantage point to see into the Horses Glen/ Glencappul valleys and the western side of Stoompa.

Our photo shows the summit. The lake on the left is Loch Guitane, the double humped summit on the right is Stoompa and the misty summit in the background is Crohane.

by Lynchieboy 15 Apr 2006 Here are some shiny happy people who could'nt stop waving at us. I'm disappointed that this is the only one I took going up Glencappul but I was just so engrosed in the climbing. This one is taken with my back to Stoompa which we have just come down from and the people pictured have the Devil's punchbowl behind them. I left a picture of our ascent with my comment on Stoompa. I seriously recommend this one. Personally I love it when the rocks are just in front of you and its all push and pull.

by jackill 10 Sep 2004 Glencappul Top is on the right of the photo taken from Torc Mountain slightly behind and under Mangerton North top which is just peeping throughthe light cloud on the extreme right. Barnacurrane is in the centre foreground ((just above the tree line).In the background you can make out the Paps.
