Mullacor Mountain Mullach Mór A name in Irish

I have climbed this summit: NO (You need to be a logged-in member to change this.)

Longitude: -6.373736, Latitude: 52.985315 , Easting: 309271, Northing: 193912 Prominence: 102m,   Isolation: 1.6km
ITM: 709196 693968,   GPS IDs, 6 char: Mlcr, 10 char: Mullacor
Bedrock type: Dark blue-grey slate, phyllite & schist, (Maulin Formation)

The séimhiú of mhór is odd, since mullach is usually masculine and so one would expect 'Mullach Mór'. Price recorded the pronunciation 'Mullawore'. Theoretically, it could be Mullach Corr. However, in addition to the difficulty of explaining the cited pronunciation, corr as an adjective in place-names usually means 'pointed' rather than 'round', which would certainly not be appropriate for the dome of Mullacor.   Mullacor is the 182nd highest summit in Ireland.

Back on the 20th Nov gone I took a walk through Ballinafunshoge Forest and out on to Mullacor. An easy walk i made difficult by veering out of the lefthand side of the forest and up through overgrown chest high grass and shrubs. Clearing the forest, I turned to my right and on up to the Mullacor peak. Although very windy, there were still lovely views of Glenmalure area and over Lugduff and to Table Mountain. The picture shows some ships sleepers that have been placed leading the way back to the forest and the track back to coillte car park.
With a longer day (I only had two hours or so) you could venture further a feild and still be within easy distance of this second carpark. Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/177/comment/3582/
