Overlooks the Spelga Dam and the Deer's Meadow, the source of the River Bann. It is surprising to think that this river rises less than 10 miles from the coast near Newcastle, and yet it empties into the sea near Coleraine.   Slieve Muck is the 160th highest summit in Ireland.

Having climbed Muck previously along Batts Wall, tackled it this time from the Banns Road side after Slievenaglogh. A tough task at the best of times but not made any easier after a long day's walking with a 10kg rucksack on your back. The only advice I can give is to stay well out to the left of the wall particularly in the two places where the wall discontinues due to the terrain. By doing so, a zig-zag path can be picked avoiding the worst of the steep ground. The warm and sunny weather we had at the start of our days walking had deteriorated into thick fog supported by strong winds. Muck teased our tired and cramping limbs with a couple of glimpses of false summits before nature took pity on us and the blew us up the last part of the climb. The trig point looked quite suprised and more than a little agitated to see two new arrivals at such a late stage in the day and as it quickly retreated into the thick cloud cover to do whatever trig points do after dark, we kept our own distance and crossed the style to take off down towards Carn and somewhere a bit more accommodating to camp for the night.
