The Big Hill.
by sandman  23 Aug 2016
Numerous mts/hills are named Knockmore: this one is situated in Fermanagh close to the village of Derrygonnelly and is known for its dramatic cliffs. It also gives its name to a type of limestone described as Knockmore Limestone which contains a number of caves, one of which is situated at H0889750467 A. The summit area has its trig and the views for such a low hill are unique. Access to the hill is via a concrete farm road located at H0834950374 B with parking adjacent at a derelict dwelling.....cross the grid, go through the wooden gate on the left and follow the track uphill. A Cultured Top

Can't add much to sandman's excellent comment and directions. This hill is worthy of inclusion on the cultural list due to its impressive cliffs, the fact that it gives its name to a type of rock - Knockmore Limestone, and for the cave near the summit with its Celtic and early Christian carvings on the wall. The cave near the summit contains many carvings on the walls - some Celtic, and some from the early Christian era. Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/1502/comment/18667/
