Wet escape
by geohappy  12 Aug 2015
Climbed Tievnabinnia yesterday with a friend who was wearing newish boots, more later. We parked at L 916 682 A, the middle of 3 car parks on the road ascending Tawnyard to the Sheefry Pass. We set off for Tawnyard and then Tievnabinnia SE Top (by the way, it's position is wrong on the MV map - it should be L 89085 68896 B - wicklore called it right on 16/7/08 from Tawnyard). Planned to complete the ridge across to Doolough, to be picked up by my wife. However my friend developed 'bootfoot' problems so after Tievnabinnia we descended early by the ridge east of Lugatoran river. Quite steep grassy slope but not difficult, we kept to the ridge and then the east side to avoid cliffs at the end of the ridge. Crossed the river at L 8853 6834 C just above the confluence. Continued south about 500m to a ford, which was deep. No alternative but to get a bit wet, but down the road about 150m we spotted a lovely concrete footbridge with a gate L 8876 6778 D over what is here a small gorge - If only! Shortly after, met with my wife who had been diverted to the farmyard with the big green barns, visible all day from the ridge. The views from start to finish were spectacular, both near and far. Note - no phone signal in Glenummera until up by car park and on the ridge at higher elevations. Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/1468/comment/18242/
