There is a “new” forest track leading all the way to Knocknalougha South Top.
Having noted eamonoc’s advice re car break-ins at S 03061 09959 A car park I decided to park at Crow Hill car park R 983 089 B. I then followed the Adandhu Way from the West rather than the East. As did previous contributors, I made the last 200m of my way to Knocknalougha South Top from the north by fumbling through the pine trees. I had taken the precaution of wearing an OLD waterproof jacket as it is not a route for your Sunday best. I was covered in moss, twigs and pine needles when I reached the little pile of stones which marked the “summit” at S01934 08521 C and was surprised to see that it was at the end of a huge wide track that headed south west. Further investigations revealed that this track can be accessed from the Avandhu way by heading south at S01386 08995 D and the new track appears to the south east at S0108 0843 E and can be followed all the way to Knocknalougha South Top, S 01934 08521 C. This track can be easily seen using the Satellite facility on Google Maps Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/1464/comment/19717/

Virgin Mary did not save me!
by eamonoc  27 Jun 2015
Climbed Thursday 25/6/2015, started from carpark at S 03061 09959 A followed Avondhu Way on good tracks to S 01995 08973 F, turned left here to a fork in the paths at S 01987 08832 G, the weather was pretty grim with little or no visibility so headed directly towards summit co ordinates, to my dismay discovered the top is completely covered in a small plantation, got to the edge of this at S 02044 08674 H, GPS infomred that top lay 180mts due sth, so did crawl through the woods, why oh why! nothing of note upon being informed by GPS that I was at top. Crawled out again then circled the woods on a good path, just to be sure. Headed back towards car with boots and clothes full of pine needles, past statue of Virgin Mary overlooking the Tipp Waterford border. Arrived at car to discover a window had been smashed in my car, thankfully nothing stolen as no valuables left in car. Reported to Gardai in Cahir, informed that quite a lot of car break ins taking place during summer months in Knockmealdowns, be warned! Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/1464/comment/18166/

Strictly for sadists....

For those of us afflicted with the need to get to the summit proper despite all obstacles, I give you the outstanding winner of complete awkwardness. Don't all rush at once to eliminate this one from your lists, there won't be a mad rush to clamber onto same. If you really wish to boldly go where no man has gone before [ apart from 3 of us so far]......be prepared to crawl. Enjoy... Trackback: http://mountainviews.ie/summit/1464/comment/18228/
