Price's suggested Irish derivation for War Hill, whilst possible, seems rather tautological and is not backed up by any Irish attestations. Barr is itself a common term denoting a hill and is usually the first element in names, e.g. Barr Trí gCom (Bau   War Hill is the 129th highest summit in Ireland.

Picture: War Hill wildlife

on a crisp January morning.
by Irishsas  26 Jan 2011 We set out on a crisp morning walk which was to include War Hill and Djouce. It turned out to be a beautiful day but I found slogging through the bog up War Hill a bit of a struggle. We met plenty of wildlife on the way up and decided that the best thing I could say about it was that if one wished to snowboard in the Wicklow Mountains then War Hill would probably be a good spot to try it!

by csd  9 Mar 2003 Not much to say about War Hill, but it makes a useful point on a Luggala, War Hill, Djouce, White Hill, Peir Gates circuit! Boggy, flat top with nice views, but they're almost the same as Djouce's. Photo is taken from the western approach, coming from Luggala.

by CaptainVertigo  5 Apr 2005 But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Picture: Small 'cairn' on War Hill
by Colin Murphy  2 Jul 2008 Not much to add to previous comments. If you fancy a slow slog through heather & mud to a rounded mound of a summit, then War Hill is the one for you. It does however make for a relatively easy second top to bag if you've been up Djouce, about 25 mins walk from one summit to the other. The car park overlooking Lough Tay is a good starting point for this. Anyone know how War Hill got its dramatic name?
