This peak is unnamed on OS maps, but is called Maul Laur on Bald's map of Co. Mayo (1830). This is probably an anglicisation of Ir. The perfect vantage point

If the prospect of Mweelrea watching is something that appeals to you, then this is one of the best places to do it. If you found Ben Gorm a little disappointing, Creggan Sth top will make your jaw hit the floor. Choose a fine day, sit down in a sheltered spot, and relax for a while as you enjoy the point where Galway collides dramatically with Mayo, both of them battling, or possibly collaborating, to create the most awe-inspiring views known in Connemara.
