Picture: Summit cairn of Silsean completed!

Picture of completed cairn!
by thedoyler  22 Feb 2011
Hiked Silsean and Moanbane last Saturday morning on a very clear, crisp morning. Thanks to Darrenf for the directions as the forest barrier was very easy to find from the Wicklow Gap. The forest trail is easy to follow and the wire fence which signifies the end of it has fallen down in apart which makes it easier to get to the overgrown path which leads you to the upper slopes of Silsean! The views towards Tonelagee and of the Blessington lakes were great due to a lack of clouds above and I actually found this to be a very pleasant walk and not as boggy as I expected having read the previous experiences of fellow members here, and this was after the heavy rain in Wicklow on the Thursday and Friday. Probably highlight of the day was about 20 deer galloping past me on my descent on the slopes of Silsean having almost completed the walk. Included is the wonderful work done on the summit cairn by members here but also a view that there is still evidence of quads & scrambler bikes around which is disappointing!
