Wonderful summit and breathtaking scenery
by Colin Murphy  24 Apr 2015
After taking wrong turns around a few of the minor roads to the south of Lough Guitane,I drove through a closed gate at Point 011 844 B and I eventually found my way to Point 010 838 C, where a local chap directed me to drive further along the minor road through a farm gate an into a derelict farmyard. There is a large grassy area here, with plenty of parking room. From there head directly south, through another gate and on to the open hillside. It was fairly straightforward after that, gentle slopes at first but a bit squishy underfoot, the slope increasing steeply after 1km and requiring a bit of climbing/scrambling as you ascent a heathery spur of the mountain. Once this is overcome, the slope lessens but is still quite draining. The summit is a broad grassy area with a large bump at the southern end, marking the top. There is a cairn, but the high point is about 10m south, marked by a pile of stones. The views are quite spectacular. Car to summit 1 hour 45 minutes.
