(Details)     COMMENTS for Carran Far North Top Page 1 of 1 Picture: View towards Carron Expand pics.   by osullivanm  4 Apr 2006 Follow the R569 east of Kenmare for c. 10 km - a right turn brings you onto a twisting road wich eventually winds its way around to Knockanuha Mtn. The drive itself is delightful - a remote valley with lovely views of lesser peaks such as Bird Mtn. and Gullaba Hill. A good track continues from the road and allows a gentle climb to Carran Far North Top. While not spectacular, the top provides a good starting point for a "circuit of Carran" with a descent possible from the col between Carran and Knockantooreen. To the north the Mangerton group is very visible. Mangertonbeg (388m) for example at 10k away, is beyond and directly in line with Kilgarvan the nearest town to CFNT. The photo shows the great sweeping view of the remote and steep side of the north ridge leading eventually to Knockboy (not shown).
