A relatively easy walk without too many rocky sections but rewarding views from the 618 metre summit. We started from the Car Park for the Killary Harbour (Grid Ref 856 624(Point A)) and made our way up the river to the Western Way, but a more sensible way would be to access the Western Way from near (870 620(Point B))! Left the Western Way at 847 619(Point C) and made our way to the ridge via (851 607(Point D)). Followed the ridge down then up to the summit. Excellent views of the Benchoonas, Kylemore Lough and Lough Fee withy Knockbrack in the distance (see photo). Easiest way down was to follow the line of the sheep fence down the ridge then cut across near the deserted village buildings to access the road at (874 618(Point E)) on the west of the river. Taking it easy and with lots of stops it took us about 7 hours to do the 10 kms!

3 of us climbed it from a point 1 mile from Leenaun on the road to Maam. We walked the horseshoe and descended down the river into the centre of Leenaun. It took 4 hours with lots of stops for photos. Well worth the climbing effort for the ever changing views. Very slippy descending as my sore elbow can testify.

Starting and ending at 615882(Point F), just a couple of hundred metres along the Maam road out of Leenaun vollage, there is space for a car or two on the left hand side of the road. Walk back down the road about thirty metres where you will see a track which follows a stream from Leenaun Hill. Leave the track at point 610882(Point G) and cross the stream, and follow a fence with takes you all the way to the top, mostly grassy but occasionally quite steep. Spectacular views in all directions. Pic shows approach towards summit taken at about 400m.
