Djouce - Meelmores height.
Context of comment:"Slieve Meelmore is included in the Mournes 7 x 7 as being over 700m (704m in fact)"
Message:Hi Djouce, yes we have had this suggested before however you will notice that the highest contour encircling the summit is at 680m, contrast this with nearby Meelbeg where the contours extend up to 700m, and you get a clue that something is up.
Then go to the 6" maps and you will see a spot height of 2237 feet, convert to meters and allow for the Poolbeg/Malin datum change to get a height of 679.1376 meters.
We have taken the modern maps contours as the height until a dgps survey can be made.
However it is unlikely that a survey will increase the height to 704 meters.
